Gabrielle Greisl

Gabrielle’s work is a mix of print and photography, self-portraiture, nature, past, present, and the self. Much of Gabrielle’s work debates and questions the relationship between the internal and external self. Makeup can act as experiments into flashy and confident new identities, as well as self-effacing performances for others. Clowns exist for others, enjoyed as humiliating and degrading sources of comedy. Gabrielle’s print works often highlight the isolation and discomfort of the self and the body.

Paintings of childhood homes and old photos convey the ephemeral experience of the past and memories, facsimiles that can only be reinterpreted, both real and tangible but also unattainable. A foundation of prior experiences for an identity to be constructed on top of.
