Permission to Party is an exhibition produced collaboratively by the Visual Arts Juniors of the Cleveland Institute of Art. The show centers on the theme of duality. With the mantra “Business in the front, Party in the back,” the artists created works that pair the idea of contradiction with glittering visuals. The artists were given autonomy to spin the theme into whatever materials, techniques, and context they wanted, resulting in a diverse body of work that balances visual aesthetics with conceptual themes. The work challenges expectations and questions societal norms. This exhibition explores the tension between public presentation and private contemplation. Permission to Party asks the viewers to question the boundaries between professionalism and the loss of self-expression, finding authenticity through art.
